Wow! A Gehry Hotel

I have now translated posts from the Dutch language Weekendhotel Weblog that I co author June, 2004 up to June, 2006 and will continue translating, but so much is happening that I have to continue posting in real time and slow down the translating.

No better restart than with this Spanish Luxury Collection Hotel Marques De Riscal in Elciego, 110 km south east of Bilbao.

WOW2

It is located in the middle of a vineyard. Frank O. Gehry is said taking the commission only after having tasted a superb 1929 (his year of birth) Marques De Riscal in the cave of the oldest and probably most prestigious winery of the Rioja appellation about eight years ago. The opening done by The King of Spain, it features 43 suites at an US $88 mio investment. It includes a wine therapy spa, an exhibition area, wine tasting rooms and a restaurant.

Bath with a view

Japan Hyatt

A bathroom in a suite of the Seoul Park Hyatt in South Korea gives this variation on the theme “A Room with a View”.

Apparently the rather puritan journalist who coined it The Best place to get naked in Time Asia is more concerned whether you can be seen from the outside on this umpteenth floor than he can enjoy the freedom of presiding in your Adam’s costume here.

The Suite

The Suite

The Suite opened after a renovation of Euro 2,3 mio on 1st June 2006.

It is located in the Amsterdam Okura Hotel.

It:

  • was designed by the London based firm RPW Design;
  • takes up the 17th and 18th floor of the hotel with a total of 485 sq meter;
  • thus covers an area that 4 average Dutch apartments usually cover;
  • has its own dining room seating 12 where the (michelin) star chef serves your private dinner;
  • has a cinema seating 14 persons;
  • has two bedrooms and two ballrooms as bathrooms;
  • provides butler en limousine service; and
  • has no price indication on the website…..

Sleepover Suite: Let’s party!

Sleepover Suite

What’s that? An -of course- pink hotel suite where wild parties of your teener daughter can be hosted instead of at your home. The rooms are sound proof: Hard rock music or karaoke sessions don’t bother the other guests. A spacious walk in shower and ample make up facilities and -products are available and off the girls can go. Read more at Old Towers Time

Not so sweet: Suite Scam

Hotel Scams

An article in USA Today warns you not to book anything you see advertised on the web without looking up references. Mala fide owners or tenants of dire blocks of apartments put an advertisement on a travel site. The innocent tourist thinks it’s a nice three star “suite”, books it, and arrives in a dump where the folding couch doesn’t fit even in the room, because once fold out it hits the kitchen sink.
